_PERSONALITY:
To be entirely frank, Mimori often seems a few cards short of a deck. At first glance, she appears a very simple girl: laid-back and overly optimistic, there's no such thing as a problem that can't be overcome -- not that much registers as a problem to begin with. Most things don't faze her upbeat attitude, and whatever she faces -- good, bad or indifferent -- is met with a smile, including such things as a grueling schedule full of unfamiliar tasks and a highly competitive popularity election. On top of that, she can be quite flighty and doesn't show much discretion, even from her very first appearance: as she's meeting the new generation of understudies, the top of her dress falls, warranting only a "relax!" as everyone gasps in horror. This is a constant with Mimori: after a rehearsal, she casually mentions that she's sweating "there"; when asked how she could forgive someone who hurt her, she announces that she is a masochist; even during a couple televised variety segments, she proves to be rather shameless. Whether these statements and actions are calculated or simply due to obliviousness (the more likely option), they play into Mimori's "sexy" persona, a key part of her characterization to the point where episode five devotes a storyline to the to a couple of the more tomboyish AKB members trying to dial back her "pheromones". Of course, in the end, their efforts are in vain.
On the other hand, despite how out there she may seem, it's easy to tell how hardworking and determined Mimori is. This quality is first demonstrated during during episode five, when the tomboys attempting to train her admit that everyone has their own unique qualities, but it's important to try other approaches, as is the nature of Succession. Hearing that, even when she feels she's reached her limit, Mimori forges ahead, not willing to give up on trying a new persona. Much later, in the second season, Mimori comes down with a fever which should rightfully put her out of commission, but she insists on performing the first part of a concert until she outright collapses.
However, on a larger scale, it's important to realize that Mimori is one of only two remaining from the 75th Generation of understudies, nicknamed the "Cursed Generation" due to every member's failure to make Succession and take on a name from the original AKB48. This means she has been working toward her dreams of becoming a Successor for two years without giving up, no matter the difficulties and discouragements she faced, including a 76th generation understudy succeeding before her. While it would be understandable if she resented that girl, Mimori never holds others' achievements against them, choosing instead to be as happy for them as she would be if she had accomplished the same thing herself, as well as being a wellspring of support for them. Even when Kanata, her fellow "Cursed Generation" member, gets the opportunity to stand in for a Successor while Mimori's stuck on the defense line, the latter helps the former with her hair and encourages her to "hustle". In the end, Mimori is an incredibly gracious girl who is thankful for all the opportunities she's given and the support she's gotten; she considers herself a fan of her fans, and she hand writes responses to every letter she receives.
Given all of this, it's no wonder that Mimori has such a great passion for the AKB0048 mission. In a line to Kanata when the younger girl is desperately clinging to her desire for revenge against AKB's enemies, Mimori says, "The more you like -- the more you love -- the better! ... [AKB0048] are the idols who sing their love." This is a policy she shows toward everyone, including groupmates, fans, and foes. One example of this is her response to Megu, a 76th Generation understudy who insults both Kanata and Mimori by saying she would be too embarrassed to remain in AKB0048 if she were part of the "Cursed Generation". Rather than reciprocating the animosity, Mimori later offers to help Megu with her makeup and comforts her through the pain of being unable to perform next to her best friend. Also, in the first season finale, Mimori fights alongside the other girls to continue a concert that was canceled mid-way due to an unexpectedly strong presence of enemy forces; knowing that they may not ever be able to return to that planet, she wants to sing and share her hope with the people of Lancastar. Even when faced with anger, hatred and the possibility of death, both from individuals and groups, Mimori unwaveringly shows kindness and love.
Strangely enough, despite all of this, it's worth noting that Mimori has a sadistic streak in her, though it manifests in more harmless, mischievous ways, such as silly "punishment games" and general teasing. This is the reason she's eventually able to succeed Mariko Shinoda.
